Giving Youth a Brighter Tomorrow
Overcoming the odds and surmounting adversity, while all still remaining positive and optimistic, needs to be celebrated! The "CLP Energy for a Brighter Tomorrow" Award does just that, acknowledging and supporting young people who inspire and promote positivity in the community.
At the Award Ceremony held on 29 June, Andaleeb was one of this year's 20 winners. Born in Pakistan, she came to Hong Kong in 2017 and found the adjustment difficult. Bullied in school, finding it difficult to integrate, challenged by language and financial stress, Andaleeb overcame all these difficulties to study hard and made the most of her opportunities. She became an active volunteer and now dreams of becoming a Maths teacher.
Organized by the HKFYG and CLP, this Award scheme gives each winner a scholarship of HK$5,000, while also providing a year of mentorship and exposures. If you want to know more, or would like to help and encourage youth in need, please contact us.

2019 Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC): Winners go to "GENIUS Olympiad 2019"
HKFYG's Creative Education Unit sent two HKSSPC winning teams to participate in this international project competition about environmental issues hosted by the State University of New York at Oswego

Attracting Diverse Young Talents to Hong Kong: Youth I.D.E.A.S. think tank report 43
Major findings
● 66,176 foreign talents were approved to work in Hong Kong in 2018, i.e. 1.67% of the total work force
● Only 555 and 40 were approved under the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) and the Technology Talent Admission Scheme (TechTAS) respectively, far below their respective quotas of 1,000
● In-depth interviews showed that expensive housing cost is the main obstacle. Other barriers include lack of interest in Hong Kong, worries about Hong Kong's declining international image and liberal environment as well as language
Recommendations setup of a "ConnectHK" agency for coordination; accommodation subsidy to talents of QMAS and TechTAS; international internship programmes by enterprises
