Take young entrepreneurs through the crisis

The unprecedented global economic downturn brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has rendered small and medium businesses especially vulnerable. With tighter and tighter profit margins, young entrepreneurs in particular are finding it increasingly difficult to stay afloat without a helping hand.

Youth Business Hong Kong (YBHK), set up with the support of Youth Business International (YBI) and operated by the HKFYG, has not ceased providing financial and other practical support to young entrepreneurs. YBI has been rolling out a Rapid Response and Recovery Programme, funded by Google's philanthropic arm: Google.org, that supports under-served micro, small and medium businesses across the globe in response to the present challenges. This has also included those in Hong Kong.

Over the coming six months, YBHK will launch a series of programmes to encourage young entrepreneurs to examine business strategies, while reviewing and redefining their business goals. These programmes will include customised one-on-one consultation services, online business talks and sharings with CEOs and other professionals, as well as mentoring sessions.

For example, Meet the Mentors Online Consultations, focusing on Restaurant Business and Food Startups is set for 28 May; and Design Thinking and Creative Solutions will be held on 11 June. In addition, different promotional channels and free applications to local trade fair/exhibitions will also be offered to subscribers.

The current challenges, we believe, also provide opportunities. With multilateral collaboration, youth businesses, together with everyone in Hong Kong and around the world, will be able to find a way through and thrive.
