The Greater Bay Area through the lens of youth

Vlogs – which are video blogs or video diaries – have probably become one of the most popular medium by which we can share visual experiences with others. This pandemic year has been one of extremely limited travel and vlogs have become a wonderful way to explore the world or learn new things.  As vlogs grow and grow in popularity, there are bound to be young people who aspire to be travel vloggers, but don’t really know how to get started.

Not to worry! The HKFYG Youth Exchange Unit, with funding support from the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation, has initiated the “Travel Vlogger” New Media Training Programme.  Running from December 2020 to August 2021, the programme will offer a series of trainings and hands-on experience to master various vlog skills. These include script writing and video shooting, to styling and presentations. Open to 40 youth aged 15-25, the hope is to nurture competent and enthusiastic vloggers who can then introduce the Greater Bay Area, including Hong Kong, to audiences, local and overseas.

As soon as travel restrictions are lifted, we very much hope that participants will be able to actually travel to different cities, plan their itineraries and produce their travel vlogs. This way we can all learn about the Greater Bay Area through the lens of youth!

Enriching Students' Internship Experiences in the Next Normal: Youth I.D.E.A.S. think tank report No. 55
Key findings
●  Near half of the respondents lost (20.7%) or were unable to find (27.3%) internships due to the coronavirus pandemic
●  457 students got an internship but 54.3% of them got a virtual one; affected students thought it can increase flexibility at work (74.2%)
●  Difficulties faced during virtual internship included less chance to experience working culture, and low communication effectiveness
●  According to an expert interview, future internship can keep up with the trend and adopt a hybrid mode for students to acquire the skills required by virtual internship and face-to-face internship
Recommendations
●  Corporates are suggested to set up an internship protocol and information kit, launch a virtual buddy support scheme, and adopt two-way communication model during virtual internship
●  Schools and NGOs provide other learning opportunities such as social community scheme, develop a virtual internship information and matching platform
Respondents 877 university students who intended to do an internship this year
