Plastic-Free Future
Plastic pollution is one of the most significant challenges we are facing today, which is threatening human and marine life, not to mention upsetting the entire ecosystem. This is something that must be tackled now, if we really care about a sustainable future.
Towards this end, the Federation is launching the Plastic Rethink Challenge for youth aged 13 to 25. With the support from The Coca-Cola Foundation, this programme will engage young people in an environmental protection journey of recycling, while instilling green living habits that can last a lifetime.
From November 2021 to June 2022, a series of workshops and educational tours will be offered, where participants will learn about the current situation and diversity of plastic recycling in Hong Kong. They will also gain hands-on experience in sorting and remodeling plastics, while also considering why the recycling rate in Hong Kong is so low. One of the activities will be to redesign recycle bins and to encourage the wider public to join in this critical action of recycling.
In addition, around 200,000 plastic bottles will be collected from the public and upcycled into different products with the help of New Life Plastic Ltd and OOObject. These new products will then be distributed in the community, giving plastic second life.
A plastic-free future is what we aim for. But it needs everyone's support!
