Building a Borderless Neighbourhood!

Once again, the most recent wave of the pandemic has seen the hindering of relationships among neighbours. To ensure that no one is left isolated, the Federation swiftly initiated new programmes with the help of our NEIGHBOURHOOD First volunteers.

While the NEIGHBOURHOOD First Reunion Lunch remains, the format has had to change due to the pandemic protocols. This year, on 22 January, 1,000 young people distributed "Reunion Packs" to over 1,300 families in need, including the elderly in Hong Kong's 18 districts. The packs included vacuumed "poon choi", new year rice cakes, noodles and hygiene supplies to make people feel the warmth of the Lunar New Year.

We will also be supporting 500 young people to call and send text messages to 1,000 people in need through our NEIGHBOURHOOD First - Care-on-Call Service. Targeting singleton elderlies, patients with chronic illnesses, caregivers and low-income families, these calls will not only extend Chinese New Year greetings, but will also try to provide assistance and practical help where needed.

To ensure that these efforts have a longer term impact, volunteers have engaged in the NEIGHBOURHOOD First - My Ideal Community campaign, where they will share ideas of how to best work in the community. The ten outstanding ideas will be provided with seed funding to help their execution, which motivate young people to actively engage in the community.

Through NEIGHBOURHOOD First, we wish to empower more young people to create greater social impact in different parts of the society. Please join us to build a borderless neighbourhood together!
