Empowering Young Girls through Sports!

Sarah Lee Wai-sze, Vivian Kong Man-wai, Siobhan Haughey, Grace Lau Mo-sheung, Stephanie Au Hoi-shun… just some of the names Hong Kong cheered on at the Tokyo Olympics! These outstanding women in different sporting disciplines are role models and inspiration to many and the Federation certainly wants to help other young female athletes feel equally empowered.

With generous support from Mitsubishi Electric (Hong Kong Limited), the HKFYG Community Team Sports Office is launching the V. Cares Youth Volleyball Programme 2022. This training programme targets young girls from 13 to 17, from grassroot families or with special educational needs or from ethnic minority backgrounds who do not usually have the opportunity to participate in sporting events.  All that they need to bring is passion and enthusiasm to learn how to play volleyball!

The Programme will provide training and create teams to play in tournaments against their peers. Those who qualify will be divided into four teams over different districts and will undergo regular training from June to August before joining the V. League camp and tournament in October. These young participants will also learn the importance of sports as a way to build self-confidence and be a stress reliever; how to work in teams and support one another; as well as learning how to win and lose with grace and dignity. They will volunteer in different community projects.

Sports is always something that brings people together and we encourage everyone, especially young girls, to get active. Come and join this wonderful effort and support the next generation of sportswomen!
