"Activating Positivity": Helping Young People Change Direction
It is easier to fall and fail than it is to pick oneself up and try again. This is especially so for teenagers who have made mistakes but want to change course. Is that even possible?
The answer is a resounding Yes! With continued support from The Lions Club of Tsuen Wan and The Correctional Services Department, The Turning Point 2022 - Youth Improvement Award is in its ninth year, recognizing the efforts of young people who have turned their lives away from drugs, gangs, and other criminal behaviour to become law-abiding, contributing members of society. Eight awardees, aged between 16 and 26, received the recognition at The HKFYG Youth Crime Prevention Centre, for "achieving excellence in the face of adversity" and fully demonstrating the spirit of this year's theme, "Activating Positivity".
Cheung, one of the recipients of the Award, shared how he was found guilty of theft after joining a gang while in junior secondary school. After meeting a social worker, he was encouraged to turn his life around by joining a sports training programme. Cheung is now a running coach and inspires others with his story as he coaches and mentors other youth-at-risk.
Trying to change direction, particularly after criminal and other anti-social behaviour, requires a great deal of support. Join us and be a companion as these brave young people do their best to become productive and contributing members of the community.
