The Unity between Nature and People

Chinese culture has always understood the special connection between Nature and Humans. In a more contemporary context, this aligns closely to what we understand, and advocate, as sustainable development. What better way than, to celebrate China Week by focusing on this inextricable link between us and the environment?

Since 2011, the Federation has organised China Week annually, with every year focusing on a different theme. The hope is that young people will see how their Chinese identity fits into a global context. And this year, from 1 to 7 August, we will look at sustainable development in China.

The programme will include two general seminars on China's response to sustainable development by Prof. Lee Chack-fan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole; and Dr. Zhu Xufeng, Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University, as part of the inauguration ceremony. There will also be four thematic talks by Ms. Annita Mau, Founder of Cheongsam Forever; Ms. Kitty Tom, Founder of INK Publishing; Mr. Tony Ip, Chairman of Hong Kong Architecture Centre; and Dr. Billy Tang, Director of the Society of Hong Kong History, on how Chinese costume, food culture, architecture and sports are closely related to sustainable development.

The participants will also have the opportunity to visit Hong Kong's traditional buildings; learn about low-carbon cooking; participate in a design workshop; and enjoy sports activities. There will also be a pitching competition, which encourages Form 3-6 students to come up with ideas to engage public participation in environmental protection, at the same time exploring a core value of the Chinese culture, the unity between Nature and Humans.

Join this meaningful programme with your friends to learn and explore more about Chinese culture and sustainable development!
