Early Intervention against Crime

Early intervention plays an important role in keeping children from embarking on a life of crime, which is why the Federation is joining hands with primary schools.

As the transition from primary school to adolescence is crucial, the Federation, with support from the Lee Hysan Foundation, has piloted a Game-based Experiential Learning for Crime Awareness Education Programme. This early intervention educational programme allows schools to identify unusual or possible criminal activities and respond to suspected unlawful activities and temptations among students with crime-themed and scenario-based games.

This programme adopts a three-level approach. The first level targets all students by organising monthly activities focusing on crime awareness education which will be led by School Values Ambassadors. There will also be seminars for parents on the latest youth crime trends, relevant laws, identification methods, as well as prevention and treatment of common crimes against children. At the second level, P.5 students will attend 12 sessions of crime-themed games to learn about the importance of different laws and regulations. These students will also take part in a pre and post assessments to test their attitudes and knowledge on crime. Finally, at level three, any identified high-risk student will be referred to the HKFYG Youth Crime Prevention Centre for counselling and follow-up.

Only by working together can we create a crime free environment and keep young people on the straight and narrow.
