Promoting STEAM Education for Underprivileged Children

Diverse learning experiences are essential for growth and development. However, there are groups of children in need who long for these valuable opportunities.

The idea of "Kids Helping Kids" has been promoted since 2017. With the support of Genki Sushi, a portion of the profit from every purchase of the "Kids Sushi Set" is donated to the HKFYG to support its "Learn with Fun" Programme, which covers a wide array of STEAM activities for underprivileged children.

Over the years, the Programme has benefited over 8,000 participants through game-based STEAM workshops. These workshops, such as Water Rocket Building, STEAM Air Vehicle Course, Electric Boat DIY Course, and more, have fostered the kids' creativity and helped them develop essential skills to become more future-ready. Additionally, the Federation has trained a group of youth as mentors for the STEAM workshops, working with them to design the course contents and enriching their experience while promoting whole-person development.

Last autumn, the Federation joined hands with Genki Sushi to host a series of hydroponic farm visits targeting children aged 6 to 12. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the existing food shortage problem, modern farming techniques, and experience different aspects of hydroponic farming, such as seeding and harvesting. Through these visits, children gained a better understanding of how food grows and developed a mindset to minimise food waste.

To continue supporting the community, the Federation will partner closely with Genki Sushi to provide immersive and diverse STEAM activities for children from less affluent districts. Stay tuned for more updates!
