Unveiling the Secrets of Huafu
China's rich culture and traditions have, historically, seen amazing developments in the arts, literature, philosophy and even within the culinary and sartorial fields. It is to this latter aspect that this year's China Week will focus: expressing appreciation for the traditional Huafu.
Since 2011, the Federation has been hosting the annual China Week, each year focusing on a specific theme. The main goal is to help young individuals understand their Chinese identity within a global context. This year, the Week looks at the enchanting Huafu or traditional Chinese outfits. By examining clothes, one can get a deeper understanding of the historical background and socio-economic development of different eras on Chinese attire. This examination also offers a unique opportunity to explore the cultural significance and artistic elements of Huafu, fostering an appreciation for, and preservation of, the essence of Chinese attire culture.
The Week's programme will feature five key highlights, including the "Cheongsam" Design Competition, enlightening lectures, captivating exhibitions and hands-on workshops, as well as an engaging exchange programme on Xiangyunsha, a fine silk fabric, also known as gambiered Guangdong gauze. There will also be a kick-off ceremony and awards presentation for the best designed "Cheongsam". There is something for everyone to enjoy and discover.
So, bring your friends and join us in this meaningful programme, where you can engage in learning, exploration, and gain a profound understanding of Chinese culture in all its splendour!
