Invigorating the Workplace through Job Creation

Unfortunately, most of us have a misunderstanding about the abilities and potential of those with Special Education Needs (SEN). We often see them as unproductive or unable to meet the demands of the workplace. This attitude needs to change and the Federation is happy to be just one organisation leading the way.

The Career Link: Inclusive Workplace Programme creates job opportunities for SEN youth and establishes inclusive work environments that cater to their unique needs. The programme will involve professional social workers visiting corporate workspaces to assess job requirements and create personalised employment plans for potential SEN hires. Additionally, co-workers will receive training to foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere within the workplace. Candidates will be selected and trained based on their individual characteristics and job requirements to ensure a good fit.

One of our surveys has revealed that employers would be more motivated to employ youth with SEN if social support could be offered. As a result, our social workers at the Youth Employment Unit will provide one-stop services for employers and SEN individuals. This support includes job matching, liaising with direct supervisors to provide background information and specific considerations about the hired SEN individual, conducting regular check-ins and on-site visits, and offering ongoing career consultations in a 12 months' follow-up period. This comprehensive support system is designed to empower SEN individuals and equip them for sustained success within an inclusive work environment.

We hope this provides a solid solution to employers to make one step forward in empowering SEN individuals with opportunities to reach their full potential and excel in workplace. Let us put "inclusion" into action by reassessing what we can really do.
