Enhancing Access to Youth Mental Health Services

Many adolescents struggle to seek help for mental health issues due to fears of stigma and concerns about privacy. Furthermore, existing mental health services are often fragmented and difficult to navigate, making it challenging for those in need to access timely support.

According to the recent “Youth Mental Health Conditions” survey conducted by the HKFYG Youth Research Centre, the results showed that the back-to-school stress levels have risen for the first time in four years, while depressive symptoms were found to be prevalent across year groups.

In response to the survey findings, the Federation has launched “Shall We Talk, Shall We Walk” (TalknWalk.hk), a new one-stop, one-click wellness platform that consolidates all its counselling and wellness services under one roof, to address the urgent mental health crisis among adolescents in Hong Kong. It aims to provide comprehensive emotional support for youth aged 6 to 29 experiencing mild to moderate mental health struggles.

The initiative seeks to create a more accessible environment by offering an integrated platform that combines emotional counselling with holistic health resources. The platform has three major focuses:

One-Stop Emotional Support, which offers face-to-face, telephone, and online counselling, allowing young people to choose the method that feels most comfortable for them

Mental Health Assessments, including thorough evaluations and referrals to appropriate services to ensure tailored care

Awareness and Education, promoting mental health awareness through public education campaigns, hoping to increase understanding and reduce stigma.

Participants can also receive customised health plans with accessible resources regularly to address their unique needs, encouraging a proactive approach to mental well-being.

This initiative is a vital step toward fostering a supportive culture around mental health. With ongoing support and engagement from the community, let’s accompany youth on their journey toward holistic health and well-being.
