What are the Aspirations of Young People?

As global mobility and remote work opportunities expand, young people are increasingly seeking paths beyond their local horizons. The rise of digital nomadism and slash works reflects a shifting mindset. The "Youth Value Indicators 2023" survey by the HKFYG Youth Research Centre reveals a rebound in youth confidence and a growing interest in opportunities beyond Hong Kong, despite a concerning decline in engagement with social, national, and global issues.

This study, which gathered insights from 522 respondents aged 15 to 39, highlights key findings include growing confidence, greater interest in mainland and overseas development opportunities, and improved perceptions of social conditions and political efficacy. However, it also highlighted a concerning decline in social participation and awareness of national and global issues.

Recognising that youth social responsibility and civic engagement are crucial for sustainable growth, the Federation recommends ongoing support for youth development initiatives. By fostering positive connections with society, young people can better care for their communities, engage in public affairs, and broaden their global perspectives, maximizing their social impact and preparing for future challenges.

To illustrate these trends, the Federation has enhanced the "Youth Trends in Hong Kong 2024" Interactive Data Platform. Users can easily explore changes in youth values and download relevant data to understand the latest development trends.
