Shooting for Change and Transformation

Shooting hoops? Who hasn’t done this, with a basketball on a court, or simply playing ‘air basketball’ at home, when your last second basket wins the championships? Basketball is a universal game that ranges from the solo player to pick up games to the professional. But it is also much more than a game.

The Federation is excited about our collaboration with the InspiringHK Sports Foundation and The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong on the Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme. This thrilling three-year initiative funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, is dedicated to creating opportunities for children and youth, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. Because we all know that playing basketball, while enhancing physical and mental well-being, also helps uncover pathways to self-expression, camaraderie and personal growth, as it teaches vital lessons in resilience and teamwork.

The programme features several key components designed to make basketball accessible and transformative for young people. The InspiringHK Dream Factory will introduce 3×3 basketball to kindergarten and primary school students, promoting healthy lifestyles from an early age. The BGCA Care initiative will blend regular basketball training with career and life planning, equipping youth with essential skills for their future.

The HKFYG Hustle 5 will bring in expert coaches from the East Asia Super League (EASL) during district training sessions, giving students and underprivileged youngsters a shot at elite-level competitions. Training courses will also elevate the skills of basketball coaches, empowering them to deliver effective EASL programmes. Plus, the EASL will invite 20 outstanding students from Hong Kong to showcase their talents alongside peers from Macau and the Philippines.  In addition, engaging events like basketball-themed challenge days, carnivals, and school tours will encourage healthy lifestyles and physical development.

Let’s inspire the next generation to dream big and shoot for change and transformation!
