NEIGHBOURHOOD First: New Year Warmth Across 18 Districts
As we prepare to welcome the Year of the Horse, our community has already galloped into action!
On 7 February, the HKFYG's youth-driven NEIGHBOURHOOD First initiative transformed all 18 districts into vibrant hubs of festive warmth. In a beautiful display of solidarity, 2,000 young volunteers came together to host traditional reunion lunches for 10,000 residents, ensuring that the joy of the season reached every corner of our city.
For 15 years, this initiative has been the heartbeat of our neighbourhoods, serving over 210,000 people to date. This year, we went, one step further, under the theme of Intergenerational Co-creation. Our volunteers didn't just share meals; they acted as ambassadors of hope, bridging generations by sharing life stories and heartfelt blessings with elderly residents.
The main event, held in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, was a joyous occasion officiated by our Guest of Honour, Miss Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, alongside many partners and friends who share our vision for a kinder Hong Kong. True to our values, our youth also managed food waste and recycling, ensuring the celebration was as sustainable as it was grand.
As the New Year unfolds, we wish you a spirited year ahead, filled with the energy and strength of the horse! May we all continue to take the extra step for our neighbours.
